Jets, Zach Wilson Finally Reach Agreement on $35.1 Million Contract

New Deal Ends Lengthy Standoff Between Two Sides

Four-Year Pact Includes $22.9 Million Signing Bonus

The New York Jets and quarterback Zach Wilson have finally reached an agreement on a four-year, $35.1 million contract, ending a lengthy standoff between the two sides.

The deal, which was announced on Wednesday, includes a $22.9 million signing bonus and is fully guaranteed. Wilson's $23 million signing bonus will prorate across the four years of his contract at just over $5.7 million per year.

The Jets also included roster bonuses due at training camp guaranteed for cornerback Ahmad Gardner. The Jets are hoping that Wilson can be the franchise quarterback they have been searching for since Mark Sanchez led them to the AFC Championship Game in 2010.

Wilson, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, showed flashes of promise as a rookie, but he also struggled with consistency. He completed 55.6% of his passes for 2,334 yards, with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

The Jets are hoping that Wilson can take a step forward in his second season and help them compete for a playoff spot. The Jets have not made the playoffs since 2010.
